what happens to you at the end of the 2023-2024 academic year

First of all: are you still subject to the old regime?

You are subject to the old funding regime until the end of the 2023-2024 academic year, if you were already enrolled in a study cycle before the 2022-2023 academic year (for example: you was already in BAC 1 in 2021-2022) and that you have not yet obtained your diploma for this cycle.

At the start of the 2024-2025 school year, there will no longer be any exceptions. All students will be subject to the new regime.

But… do you know what financeability is exactly?

The Wallonia-Brussels Federation grants subsidies to colleges and universities for students considered “financeable”. For the establishment to be able to obtain these subsidies, four conditions will be verified:

  • The student must register for a year of bachelor’s, master’s, specialization, aggregation or doctorate;
  • He must have the nationality of a member state of the European Union or be assimilated;
  • He cannot have already acquired 3 academic grades of the same level during the last 5 years;
  • His academic results must meet certain criteria that we will analyze with you below.

Fundability rules linked to your results

At the end of the 2023-2024 academic year, your results will be analyzed on the basis of the new rules only, namely:

  1. The student enrolls in a study cycle for the first time without having already been enrolled in it during the last 5 academic years;
  2. The student has acquired all the credits of his previous registration in this course, with an EAP of at least 45 credits (except reduction):
  3. It fulfills sufficient conditions for success . That’s to say :

Transitional regime

So, if you are in this situation and want to analyze your financability at the end of the 2023-2024 academic year, you have to place yourself at the end of this year and apply the new rules.

If you have passed all the credits at the end of this year 2023-2024, you will automatically be fundable the following year. If this is not the case, you will have to check if you have reached the aforementioned beacons.

For example :

  • 2021-2022 (1st registration) – communication bachelor – 45/60 credits.
  • 2022-2023 (2nd registration) – communication bachelor – 50/60 credits (15 block 1 credits and 35 block 2 credits).
  • 2023-2024 (3rd registration) – communication bachelor – 45/60 credits (10 block 2 credits and 35 block 3 credits): the new rules apply. Given that this is the young person’s 3rd registration , he should have acquired at least the mark of the first 60 credits required after 2 registrations. In this case, he acquired 140 credits (including the first 60 credits of block 1). The next tag he must acquire is that of 120 credits at the end of his 4th registration in 2024-2025. It will therefore be fundable for the year 2024-2025.
  • 2024-2025 (4th registration) – communication bachelor: the young person must have acquired at least 120 credits (which she has already obtained).
  • 2025-2026 (5th registration) – communication bachelor: he must have acquired 180 credits.
